Update From The Road

So much has been happening and we’re traveling again now.  I’ll try to give a little update here and post most of the pictures when we get back to New Mexico.

The wedding Saturday night was just beautiful.  The winery was such a lovely venue, beautiful views and just an incredible setting.  The wedding itself was short and emotional.  The dinner was great and I can’t even tell you how good the wines were and that is Wines plural.  They were incredible!  We had a wonderful time with all of our New Jersey friends.  After the reception we all went back to the hotel where everyone was staying for another party that went on until 2:30am!!  We didn’t stay very long because we had to get back to cousin Kim’s house and didn’t want to be too late getting in.

On Sunday, Ralph and I drove to Santa Rosa again but to a different area to visit with my cousin Lisa (Kim’s sister) and her husband Dave.  They live in an area that seems to be one winery after another.  The whole winery thing is fascinating to me.  I fear if I lived in the area, I would become way too involved in drinking wine.  Maybe that’s not a bad thing! 😉  We had a very nice lunch at a country club.  Photos to follow!  It was very nice to have a chance to spend time with Lisa and to meet her husband and her son, Colton.  We really enjoyed the visit!

We had a lovely dinner later that evening back at Kim’s house and she made wonderful grilled Portobello mushroom sandwiches.  Ralph crashed early and Kim and I sat up to watch the closing ceremonies of the Olympics.  It was great fun.

We knew we had a long ride facing us on Monday so we had gotten most of our packing done Sunday night and just had to pack into the car on Monday morning.  It was very hard to leave Kim, but we know that we will be in touch with Kim and Lisa from now on.  It’s funny how in spite of the fact that Ele and I have never had the chance to spend much time with them, because their Dad was in the Air Force and they lived all over the place, we’ve always felt close to them.  Guess it’s a family thing.  It was a wonderful visit and I just wish Ele could have been here.

We got off on time and traveled through Sacramento and then into one of the most beautiful areas I’ve ever seen.  I’m not sure what it’s called, but you travel East along route 89 and it’s an incredible mountainous, foresty place.  It was so beautiful.

We continued on to a town that we’ve visited before, Lone Pine.  It has a wonderful history.  As the story goes, over 300 movies were filmed here and hundreds of TV Westerns.  It’s a wonderful place.  We got here at just about 8:30pm.  We settled in and we plan to be up early Tuesday morning for a day of touring the town.  I can’t wait.

Time for me to get some sleep.  What a trip this has been!

Happy Tuesday from Lone Pine, California!!
