It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?~January 28

Another week, another It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?  I like being able to catch up on books and I must say Sheila’s link up over at Book Journey is a good place to catch up on what books are out there.  I love seeing and hearing about what other people are reading.  In fact if I’m out in public, a waiting room or a restaurant and someone is reading, I will crane my neck into ridiculous positions in order to see what they’re reading.  I’m nosy that way!  This is sort of the same thing without the crazy neck positions!

So here we go!

I must say that I’ve been a bit sluggish this week in reading and in life.  That happens sometimes after reading a few books in a row that I really enjoy.  In fact, I started two books which I then stopped.  I may go back to them, but sometimes a book needs to grab my attention for me to continue.

I did enjoy one of my Goodwill finds this week.

A Cup of Tea: A Novel of 1917

A Cup of Tea by Amy Ephron.  It felt to me as if I was reading an Edith Wharton novel.   It gave a good flavor of the time period, 1917.  I actually wished that it was longer and that the story was more fleshed out.  I was enjoying getting to know the characters when the book ended.  As is with so many of my thrifting finds, this is a book I might never have found if it wasn’t sitting on the shelf a Goodwill.

I’m currently reading Brooklyn by Colm Toibin.

I have been a bit distracted for the last few days and it’s taken me a bit of work to get into this, but I’m enjoying it.  I hope to have it finished today.

I think my next will be the continuation of the Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

I read the first installment, The Magician’s Nephew at the beginning of January and I really enjoyed it.  This is my next step.

I was excited to hear from Amazon that my copy of On Leave by my friend, R E Thorpe has shipped and is on it’s way!

That will be my next.  I’m sure it will be quite a change after Narnia, but that’s the good part about reading…So many different worlds to visit.

Be sure to stop by Book Journey and see what everyone is reading, leave some comments and pick up a few ideas.  That’s where I’m heading now…Join me!

Happy Monday! What are you reading?!  🙂

  1. You for sure cannot go wrong with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Have a good week!

  2. happy reading today, fran! it is great to mix up genres and change reading/writing styles.
i like to see what people are reading when i am on vacation/at the beach. i’ll always remember the one year in aruba, it seemed every 2nd person was reading the da vinci code (which made me ragey/cringey because i really disliked that book and the hype surrounding it!).
i did finish “state of wonder!” now to finish “circle of friends” by maeve binchy.

    • How did you like State of Wonder, Cathy? I did almost all of Ann Patchett’s books, most on audio but several in book form. Wondering if I should give “Wonder” a try! Hyped books tend to go to the bottom of my list, but I guess my recent experience with The Fault in Our Stars proved that shouldn’t always be the case.

      • i really enjoyed it, fran. i would give it a *** star rating. my parents both read it and my mom agreed, *** but dad would only give it one star!! i would love to get your opinion! i really liked the main character, marina, and the plot held my attention.

      • Well, it’s up next, Cathy unless On Leave comes from Amazon, then I’ll switch. I’ve been hearing about this book for 6 years and I need to read it!

  3. My face-to-face book group has talked about reading Narnia. I like the idea.

My It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?! is here. Hope you will stop by!

  4. You still managed to read some, even if you weren’t quite so inspired this week. I sometimes find it hard, too, to get into a new book after I’ve finished a really good one.

Well, I hope you have a good week this week.

  5. A vampire tale called The Strain by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan

  6. A Cup of Tea looks tempting! Ephron is a name I enjoy in authors…I’m sure she must be related to the others….thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

I like craning my neck to see what others are reading, too! lol

  7. I’m struggling to find time to read, but I did start a book! The Man Who Ate Everything. About food, of course. 🙂

  8. I am in search of my next book, Beautiful Creatures. The movie is coming out next month, and I want to read it before I watch it.

  9. Nice diverse selection of books. That’s the way I like to read too 🙂

    • Mine are mostly thrift store finds unless I hear of something new that intrigues me, then I get it from the library. That’s how I’ve found some of my favorite books, at the thrift store! Have a great week, Sheila!

  10. A nice variety!
I just discovered BookBub for downloading books to an ereader. Their books of the day are free and now I have a stack growing on my Kindle.
