Snapshot Saturday~July 13

Snapshot Saturday is fun because it gives me a chance to share photos that don’ fit into other categories.  When you’re finished here, be sure to visit West Metro Mommy to see the fun photos being shared by the other linkers.

A couple of weeks ago, I shared a photo of the St. Anthony statue in my back yard. I mentioned the fact that my sister, Ele and I used to joke about dressing up St. Anthony for various holidays.  We’ve never actually done that.

However, there is a place where an unlikely subject Does get dressed up for holidays and the passing seasons.

We go to our family doctor every few months for Ralph’s regular check up.  It’s always fun to go because we love our doctors and the ladies who work in the office.

There’s also another character that we like to see…

He does have a name but at the moment I cannot remember what it is.  He is appropriately dressed for each season and holiday.  Love his flowered swim pants!  Next time we see him he’ll probably dressed for Halloween. I’ll try to remember to take a shot!

Happy Snapshot Saturday!

Snapshot Saturday~July 6

It’s time for Snapshot Saturday again.  Hosted by Melinda at West Metro Mommy.  Be sure to check out the other photos of the day over there when you’re finished here.

This is probably my last photo from my collection taken at the local nursery earlier in the summer.  I think I’ve run through them all.

I tried to get a bit fancy with this and I think it turned out pretty well.

Not sure why, but there were doves in a cage at the nursery.

I tried to get him/her centered in the photo without the bars.  They’re sort of there…like “ghost” bars.  I like the touch of color that I captured in the background.

It’s funny that on July 4th when I was at my sister Ele’s house, we were talking about birds and looking them up in her bird book.  I’ll have to let her tell me exactly what this one is.

Happy Snapshot Saturday!

Snapshot Saturday is now hosted by Melinda at West Metro Mommy.  Please be sure to stop buy and check out all of the snapshots that everyone is sharing today.  Me…I’m standing out in the heat at my Yard Sale.  Wish me Luck!!

My yard is not as “kept” as I’d like it to be.  My house used to be my Grandparents house and one of the things left to me is a statue of St. Anthony that my Grandpop put in years ago.  Interesting story is that when my Grandmother passed away, my Uncle Tony who was also my godfather, wanted the statue.  He had already given a home to a statue of the Blessed Mother that was here.  We were happy to share the statues with him.  He tried to get St. Anthony out of the ground.  He dug and dug, probably about 4 or 5 feet down.  Nothing doing.  St. Anthony is there to stay on a cement stand.  When I sell the house, I then have to figure out how to get St. Anthony out because I want him to go with me.  I think someone is going to have to hack him out of the cement.  It won’t be me.  Anyone good with chopping concrete?  My sister, Ele and I often joked that we should dress up St. Anthony for the holidays…a witch’s hat for Halloween, a Santa hat for Christmas.  We weren’t being sacrilegious.  We just thought of him as part of the family.

St. Anthony…living in the undergrowth.   No hat…

Be sure to stop by at West Metro Mommy to check out everyone who’s participating in today’s Snapshot Saturday.

Happy Saturday!

Snapshot Saturday~June 22

Welcome to Snapshot Saturday hosted by Melinda at West Metro Mommy.  When you’re finished here, please be sure to check out the other terrific photographers who join in each week.  So many wonderful photos and don’t forget to leave some comments!

There were a lot of things that happened this week, some that came with photos, some that did not.  Wednesday, Ralph and I attended the high school graduation of our grandson, Patrick.  I’m saving the actual graduation pictures for the moment.  After all of the terrible rains that we’ve been having, we were blessed with a beautiful night.

I was able to catch my first sunset with my new camera.

This was a spot on the high school campus with a little pond.  I thought it was beautiful!  I couldn’t wait to share it with everyone.

Be sure to stop by West Metro Mommy to check out all of the other wonderful photos that you’ll find there.

Happy Snapshot Saturday!!

Snapshot Saturday~June 15

While I’m at my Weight Watchers meeting bright and early on this fine Saturday morning (fine, if the rain Ever goes away!) you can all enjoy the weekly fun of Snapshot Saturday, hosted by Melinda at West Metro Mommy.  This is the place to be to see and be seen if you like taking and sharing your photos.  If you’re inclined, link up…we’d love to see your photos, too!

I have just a few photos left from my day at the local nursery.  I almost forgot about this one because it’s not flowers, but it did catch my eye and the more I look at it the better I like it.

I’m not completely sure if it is the sun or the moon.  I’m a moon fan so I like to think it’s the moon.  It probably is when you look closely and see all of the craters.  I just realized that if you look closely (again), you can see my reflection in the pot on the left.  How funny.  I don’t know how many times I’ve looked at this and I never noticed it.  Does that count as a self-portrait?!  I think it should!

Be sure to check out the other wonderful photos at West Metro Mommy and be sure to leave some comments!

Happy Saturday!!

Snapshot Saturday~June 8

It’s Saturday and that of course means Snapshot Saturday sponsored by Melinda at West Metro Mommy.  When you’re finished here, be sure to visit the rest of the Saturday Snappers over there!

I haven’t been taking a lot of photos lately, no particular reason why, I just haven’t.  Luckily for me I have plenty left from the day I went to the local nursery to pick out flowers with my friends.

I’m not sure, but I think these are petunias…I don’t have much of a green thumb, I rely on my sister, Ele for that!!

I love the intense color of these and since I was in a greenhouse, the sun was very bright, but the color held its vibrance.  I had almost forgotten I had these photos.  Glad  dug around on my memory card to find them.

Happy Snapshot Saturday!

Snapshot Saturday~June 1

Happy June! Happy Snapshot Saturday! The photo party has migrated to West Metro Mommy hosted by Melinda.  Thanks again to Melinda for giving us our new home.  Be sure to check out the other blogs linking up when your finish here at BCDC.  Of course…leave some comments.

I was at my sister Ele’s house on Sunday for our Memorial Day celebration.  I wanted to share some flower photos again, but these have a bit of a story to go with them. (Isn’t there  always a story here?)

Where they are planted used to be a swimming pool that my Dad built with reclaimed bricks from the work sites he frequented in his job as a supervisor for the local gas company.  He dug the hole and with brick and cement made us a swimming pool.  As kids, we spent many summer hours splashing and having a wonderful time in this pool.  I should have taken a full photo so that you could understand what I mean.  But I was focusing on the flowers.  After we got older and no longer used the pool, it was filled in with dirt for safety reasons.  We decided it would make a nice flower garden.

Going along with my love of irises, I planted what I believe are known as Japanese irises.  I am so happy that they are still blooming all these years later.  Some of the other flowers have not fared so well.

They make me happy to look at them.

Be sure to visit West Metro Mommy to see what the other Snapshot Saturday folks are sharing.

Happy Snapshot Saturday!

Snapshot Saturday~May 25

Snapshot Saturday carries on except for the fact that Alyce at At Home With Books will be taking a hiatus. During that time, Melinda at West Metro Mommy has kindly stepped in to be our fearless leader.  Thanks so much to Melinda for doing this.  I’d be lost without Snapshot Saturday!!

As I mentioned last Saturday, I’m not much of a gardener, but I have inherited some beautiful flowers that just do their own thing.  I’ve shared my crocuses, my lilacs and last week my irises.  Thanks to everyone who left such kind comments about them.

This week I’m sharing a flower, some say weed, that made a guest appearance in last week’s iris photos.  The bluebell.  I know there is a technical name for it, but Gram always called them bluebells and half the time she like them, half the time she was waging a battle against them.  They would never grow where she wanted them to grow! As a result, they’re pretty much all over the place.

They’re usually that pretty deep purple-y blue which everyone recognizes.  As I walked out of my back door earlier this week I noticed a phenomenon.  A whitish blue version of the sometimes beloved, sometimes dreaded bluebell.

I’ve never seen one like this before and I was stunned.  So glad I had my camera with me at the time so that I could catch it.  This would have been worth going back in the house for my camera if I hadn’t had it.  I love it!

Don’t forget to stop over at West Metro Mommy to check out the other great photos that everyone will be sharing for Snapshot Saturday.

Have a great day!!

Snapshot Saturday~May 18

I hate to miss a chance to participate in Snapshot Saturday sponsored by Alyce at At Home With Books.  I’m writing and scheduling this on Friday.  Not sure what time on Saturday I will actually be able to link it up.  The reason for that is  I will be participating in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life at Chestnut Ridge Park in Mantua, NJ.  This will be our fourth year walking in the Relay…we walk all night…we even did it in the rain one year. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate this year.

If anyone is interested in donating to support our team, please go to my fundraising page.  It’s simple and easy.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

On to the photography!

I’ve talked before about living in an old house that had belonged to my Grandparents.  One of the things left over from them living here besides the creaky floors and damp basement are some flowers.  Iris are my favorite flowers and Gram left some of them.  I’m sharing two photos today.

With the blue bells…at least that’s what we always called them…I’m not sure of their official name.  The green surrounding the flowers are day lily plants that haven’t bloomed yet.  I like the depth that the green adds to the photos.

Taking center stage!!

I wasn’t sure if I thought these photos were very good when I first took them.  But the more I look at them, the better I like them!

Be sure to stop by at At Home With Books to see the work of some terrific photographers.  Leave some comments, too, because we all love comments!

Happy Snapshot Saturday!

Snapshot Saturday~May 11

A trip to a local nursery has given me lots of fodder for my next few installments of Snapshot Saturday, hosted by Alyce at At Home With Books.

I love flowers and since I’m not much of a gardener, I jumped at the chance to visit the nursery with my friends Gail and Alice.  The sights were incredible and I’m going to get the most mileage from them that I can.

Beautiful hydrangea…

I like this photo because the not quite bloomed flower in the center appears to be wearing the blooming flowers as a head-dress.  Ok, so that might sound a little strange to you  but that’s what it looks like to me!

I love the full pink color of the surrounding flowers and the yellow to green to pink of the one in the center.  I also love the touch of green from the leaves.  Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers and I love to see the bushes when they are full-grown and covered in blooms.  I’ll have to check the neighborhood to see if I can find one of those!

Happy Snapshot Saturday!
