About

My name is Fran.  After working just about every day of my life, I retired in December, 2010.  The major reason for doing this is because my husband Ralph and I will be moving to New Mexico in the (I hope) very near future.  In the meantime, my blog will deal with the process of packing up and getting this show on the road.

It will also deal with my journey with food.  I became a Weight Watchers member in 1987 and a Lifetime member in 1988.  I also spent 15 years working as a Leader so I have a great love for this program.  Oh, and did I mention I’m also vegetarian but as my good friend in Kansas City says, I’m not an “annoying” vegetarian.  High praise indeed!  Ralph is a meatasaurus so I constantly have to work things out.  But it’s fun and I view it as a challenge.  I am convinced that my vegetarian lifestyle as well as what I’ve learned from Weight Watchers is the reason that I am as healthy as I am at my advanced age.  I turned 60 in October.  According to Ralph, he still gets comments about robbing the cradle.  I still attend weekly WW meetings and I’m now in the midst of working the new PointsPlus program into my life.  So far so good.

I do love to read so there will be posts related to that obsession and if you saw the number of boxes I’ve already packed for the move that are labeled “books” you’d understand.

So stick around and we’ll see how this goes.  I think it will be fun!

  1. I will take a look around. This looks great 🙂

  2. Congratulations on your retirement…I am very much looking forward to doing the same thing and moving to a different city when I turn 60! Or maybe, if I win the lottery, a bit earlier. 🙂

  3. Hey there–love the name of your blog, so true! I couldn’t find your email address but I wanted to put FitFluential.com on your radar because I think you would be a good fit. Check out http://fitfluential.com for more info on who we are or feel free to email me if you have any questions!

  4. Hi Fran! Love your blog…so inspired that you are a Lifetime Weight Watchers Member! I just started a blog to not only focus on weight loss but to chronicle my new home, Santa Fe! Enjoy your weekend.

    • Hi Erin! Thanks so much for you kind words about BCDC!! We’re moving to Silver City! Not sure when, my answer is always Not Soon Enough!! In fact we’re leaving next Saturday first to go to Ralph’s Army reunion in Colorado Springs and then for hopefully about 3 weeks in Silver! I’ve never seen Santa Fe but I always hear how beautiful it is. Once we get moved out perhaps there’s a Blogger’s Date in order! Stay in touch and thanks for commenting!

  5. Fran- Silver City is awesome!

Have a fun and safe trip next week and make sure you post a lot of traveling pictures!

  6. Hi Fran,
Im glad you found my blog on WIAW post. I have enjoyed reading through yours. You look fantastic, healthy diet and lifestyle are the keys for sure! 🙂

  7. As a nightly homemade-oatmeal-chocolate-chip-cookie-consumer, I have to say I agree 100% with your blog name–great choice! 🙂

    • Hi Kiah! Thanks for stopping by! The title comes from an old Weight Watchers saying. We would list all things that didn’t count when we were tracking our food…eating after midnight…eating after dark…broken cookies don’t count. I’ve been saving that for years and now have a chance to use it! Please stop back again!

  8. Congrats to you on your retirement! Looking forward to following 🙂

  9. I love the not annoying vegetarians! Those are the best kind. I also love the name Fran! I really do!!!!!! 🙂 So cute.

  10. Sounds like you are enjoying your retirement! Have you made the move to NM yet? I have been there several times and the light is just amazing isn’t it? Congrats on being a non-annoying vegetarian! I like to think I am a non-annoying vegan. My husband is a meat eater too so yes that’s a challenge!
My middle name is Frances and I’ve tried for years to get the nickname Frankie to stick but no luck 😀

    • Shall I call you Frankie, then?! We have not made the move to NM yet, but we’ll hopefully be visiting in August. I wish I was there more than I can possibly express. I’ll get there soon, I hope. We definitely have something in common with our meatasaurus husbands!

  11. My mother is a big WW gal:) well.. small WW gal..LOL anyway she loves it:) I am a pesco-lacto/ovo vegetarian my fellow not so, he is a Meat eater. He always tells me that man cannot live on without meat:) But I think that is why you are still in the cradle no meat.. I stopped eating meat when it stopped agreeing with my stomach. SO nice to find someone else in the Meat fellow boat:) LOL I am sure I will find some tips to give to my mom here with your commitment to WW:)

    • Thanks for stopping by! Glad you Mom has had success with the Program. I do believe it changed my life. I try to give good tips because I learn things from others and want to pass the ideas on to my readers. My husband is a meatosaurus too, but we work it out. A few weeks back I made two pots of soup at the same time, one chicken for Ralph, one chicken-esque for Me. They both turned out great! Pleas visit again!
