Saturday Snapshot~December 14

I don’t know what the weather might hold for me on Saturday morning, but I do know that it involves Saturday Snapshot hostessed by Melinda at West Metro Mommy Reads.

SaturdaySnapshot

The past week has been crazy and I have no photos to share but I do have one that I love.  In recent years, Ralph has become the man in charge when it comes to carving the Thanksgiving turkey.  He’s always got a sharp knife and…well, he’s there!  I heard lots of giggling and laughter coming from the kitchen where he and my sister Ele were working while I set the table.  We’ve started to do the carving the night before which works well for us.  When I got to the kitchen, I was able to capture this shot.

Thanksgiving Ralph

I love this.  He looks happy and I’m pretty sure just before I got to the kitchen that he and Ele were sneaking snacks of the turkey.  It’s part of their routine.    See, he’s not just a terrific artist…he’s good in the kitchen, too.  This is one of my favorite photos in a long time.

Be sure to stop by at West Metro Mommy Reads to see what all of the other photographers have to share today.  Hope the weather is good wherever you are.  If not, be careful!

Happy Saturday!!

Saturday Snapshot~November 23

I’m always happy to join in for Snapshot Saturday, hostessed by Melinda at West Metro Mommy Reads.  Such a great group of bloggers gather there every week.  They all seem to have quite a knack with photography as well.  Be sure to check them out when you’re finished here.

Most of the trees in our area have lost their leaves.  In fact, the young man who takes care of our yard work needs did a Homeric job of raking all of them in our yard.  I don’t know how he does it, he’s in college and works another job, but he never forgets us.  Great kid.  I should go take a photo of all the leaves in the gutter. I may do that.

But instead of showing you the piles of leaves, I’m going to share a beautiful sky from this past week.  In the yard next to us, there are three huge maple trees.  I’ve shown them before in their Autumn glory.  One day earlier this week, there was an amazing sky and although the trees now have just a few leaves left, the view was intense and beautiful.

Fall Sky

The sky was incredibly blue with a base of white clouds topped by splashes of grey clouds.  It looked like a painting.  I was happy that this seemed to translate well into my photo.

Autumn is beautiful from start to finish.  My favorite season.  I love it every time.

Be sure to check out the other bloggers over at West Metro Mommy Reads.  I know you’ll like what you find.

Happy Snapshot Saturday!

Snapshot Saturday~November 16

I’ve been enjoying the Fall a great deal.  The colors have been so spectacular, but I haven’t been capturing a lot in photos. But it’s Snapshot Saturday so I’m sharing something that I thought was unique.  Snapshot Saturday is hostessed by Melinda at West Metro Mommy Reads.  Be sure to check out the other great photography you’ll find there.

Friday morning as the sun rose, the sky was streaked with pink.  That pink worked it’s magic on the trees outside my kitchen window and especially the leaves that had fallen beneath those trees.  It was an amazing combination of colors.  Unfortunately, it didn’t translate as well as I would have liked in my photo.  I think it’s still beautiful.

Trees and leaves

It’s not as vibrant as it looked to me in person.  Maybe my eyes were playing tricks and it looked different to me.  Perhaps it’s true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I think in this case, it might have been.

Don’t forget to check out the other photographers at West Metro Mommy Reads.

Happy Snapshot Saturday!

Snapshot Saturday~November 9

I love Snapshot Saturday for so many reasons. One reason is that it got me up and going to take some pictures of the Fall leaves.  I have been very remiss in doing that.  They’re almost gone, but knowing that I needed something for Snapshot Saturday got me moving.  Be sure to check out the other great photos over at West Metro Mommy Reads our lovely hostess Melinda’s Blog.

I have truly been enjoying all of the Autumn beauty, but not capturing it except in my memory.  Here are two that I did take the time to capture today.

All in my neighbor’s side yard.  So beautiful.  I think I’ll go out and take some more!

Snapshot Saturday~November 2

I’m writing this post on Friday and I am Very proud of myself.  It is November 1 and I just turned the page on the calendar.  Usually it happens around the 15th of the month.  Sometimes later.  I would say that this is a good start!

Since I’ve been back from New Mexico I sometimes have a hard time looking at the photos I took there.  I find myself down in the dumps because I want to be there and I’m not.  I remember the day I took this photo and how beautiful the day was.  I think it shows in the photo.

There is a coffee shop that we go to frequently (very frequently…) called Java The Hut.  It’s a tiny place within a group of shops called The Hub.  The people that we’ve met and come to know at Java are like family.  They welcome us warmly and are sorry to see us go.

One of the best part of The Hub is the beautiful landscaping.  The photo of the agave and morning-glory that I used last Saturday is from there.  This is another of the great shots I got of the beautiful local flora.

Java grass

I love the colors in this photo and how the sun plays on the long grass fronds.  It reminds me of the warm days we spent there.  The warmth coming from the sun and from the people there.

I don’t quite know what’s going on with WordPress today.  My typing is getting out of line from how I’m used to so I guess we’ll just go with it.  Be sure to check out the other Saturday Snapshot participants.  You’ll be glad you did.

Happy Snapshot Saturday!

Snapshot Saturday~September 28

Another Snapshot Saturday!  I love being part of this group of great people who share their photos and their lives with us.  Thanks to Melinda at West Metro Mommy for being our lovely hostess!

Art is everywhere in Silver City.  There are more art galleries than there are restaurants, it seems.  There is even a Children’s Art Project.  One of their projects was making tiles.  These tiles line steps in several areas of Old Town Silver City.  I have my favorite.

Perfect!

Zoned in Another Time Zone

Good morning, or is it night-time?  My body is off track time wise.  My computer is telling me that it’s 8 am.  Of course, my computer is on New Jersey time.  The clock on the wall says 6 am.  I’ve been awake since 4 am according to my watch which is on New Mexico time, but that makes it 6 am to my body.  Ok, so I should be over this by now, but it doesn’t really bother me.  My sleeping was off track before we left and I don’t care what time it is or that my body Thinks it is…I’m in New Mexico!!

We’re doing a lot of settling in and getting things where we want them to be, but sadly it will have to be packed up again when we leave in October, but I’ll deal with that then.  We’re making arrangements for some repairs we need to have done.  We’ll also be looking for some furniture…thrift stores, here we come!

Oh, yes…and we’re looking at the sky.  I have so many beautiful sky photos already and we haven’t even been here a week.  That’s why I’m going to be linking this post to Snapshot Saturday hostessed by Melinda at West Metro Mommy.  I’ve missed it a few weeks now and I’m not happy about that.  Be sure to check the blogs linking up.  I love the photos that I find there!

Usually, I’m photographing the sunrises and sunsets when I’m here.  Because of the odd weather they’re having in NM this year, so far the sunrise/sunset hasn’t been up to the usual standards.  But the clouds…

Clouds No. 3

Clouds No.1

Clouds No,2

They’re all pretty amazing.  Ralph and I look like a couple of tourists…our phones or our cameras always clicking away.  On our trips here, we’ve often asked ourselves if we will become jaded once we live here.  Will we stop seeing the beauty of the land and the skies?  I don’t really think we will.  I think it will be a lifetime photo-op!!

Happy Friday and Happy Snapshot Saturday!!

Snapshot Saturday~August 31

Can’t believe I missed Snapshot Saturday last week but somehow I did!  I love being part of this link up and I don’t like to miss out.  Snapshot Saturday is hostessed by Melinda at West Metro Mommy.  Be sure to check out all of the other great photography there when you’re finished here.

You’ve heard me talking about my trip to Maine.  Maine has been a favorite place for me since my friends Gail and Alice and I went there more than 20 years ago.  It is one of the most beautiful places and we kept going back year after year.

It was so exciting when two years ago Gail was able to get her own cabin there.  I spent two wonderful weeks there at the beginning of August.  One of our favorite places for lunch was the Blue Moon Cafe.  This photo is a shot I took with the phone on my camera from the deck behind the Cafe.

Harbor in Boothbay Harbor

I was quite impressed that my phone could take such a great photo.  It’s such a beautiful harbor.  I loved the photo so much that I’ve made it the background on my phone.  I was also impressed that I figured out how to transfer this to my computer so that I could use it here.  I’m getting better at this!

Don’t forget to check out the other Snapshot Saturday linkers at West Metro Mommy.

Happy Snapshot Saturday!! Enjoy your holiday!!

Snapshot Saturday~August 17

I’m probably Way too excited to be back with the chance to participate in Snapshot Saturday hosted by Melinda at West Metro Mommy.  I really enjoyed my Blog Break, but I’m happy to be back.

My Blog Break occurred because I had the wonderful opportunity to spend 2 weeks with my best friend Gail at her cabin in Maine.  We used to go to Maine with our friend Alice back when we were all much younger.  Gail’s dream was to have a place there.  Through the wonders of the internet, she found a cabin and purchased it almost 2 years ago.  This might sound like I’m going to show you a picture of the cabin, but all of those photos are on my DSLR and I have yet to figure out how to resize those photos.  I Will learn! Then you will all be introduced to the Cabin In The Woods.

Anyway, one of the things that we did while there was to have Ice Cream.  Now please don’t tell any of our friends at Weight Watchers this, but we had it “regularly.”  I thought I’d share one of my favorite photos involving Gail and ice cream.

I think this photo says it all!!

Happy Snapshot Saturday!

Progress Sitting Down

I’ve been sharing my whirlwind life lately…so much excitement.  How exciting can it be when you’re working on something that requires you to wash you hands every five minutes?  There’s a certain level of excitement involved but it can get dusty and dirty.

I decided that yesterday needed to be a sit down job day and only required about two hand washings.

One of the things rediscovered in my basement was a bunch of old coins.  Lots of pennies and lots of half dollars, quarters and a few silver dollars.  At one point, most of the pennies were sorted. put in little bags and labeled with the dates on them.  This will actually be helpful for my sister, Ele because she wants to look through them to fill her penny collection books.

The others were sort of a jumble and I had to go through them.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve gotten most of them sorted in little zip lock bags.  After completing my job, I actually realized that I have all of the quarters that were left over from my yard sale change, which might have some of the desirable dates in them.  I’ll have to check that over the weekend.  I’m doing this because my friend Gail gave me a brochure from a place in Florida that buys coins, gold and silver.  I’m going to make contact with them and see if they’re interested.  I’ve also got some silver that might interest them.  Just have to dig it out.

As I sorted, I tried to check the brochure to see what might be valuable.  I won’t make a fortune, but I should make something from it and since Gail offered to take it all with her to Florida in January, it won’t cost me anything to get it there.  We’ll see how that works.  It’ll be a late Christmas gift!

Since it was going to be a long process, I decided I’d amuse myself as I worked on it.

This was a good way to occupy my mind while sorting and identifying…

A gift from Ralph for Valentine’s day.  The first two seasons of NYPD Blue…one of my favorite shows.  I’m a third of the way through Season 1.  That didn’t all happen during my sorting session, but I did watch four episodes.  A relatively boring job was made less so by something enjoyable to watch.

As I did last week, I think I’ll link this up with Snapshot Saturday hostessed by Melinda at West Metro Mommy.  Not great photography, but certainly a snapshot of my life right now.

Progress is good whether standing up or sitting down.  At least that’s what I’m telling myself!

Happy Friday!  Happy Snapshot Saturday!
